Smart Gilas was able to make a defensive stops against the taller and stronger team in Asia, the Iranian National Basketball Team which was led by former Iranian National playing for French basketball, Samad Nikkah Bahrami who stands 6 foot 6 but one of the most experienced Iranian National.
Jeff Chan leading the Philippines attacked with a total of 9 points tied with Smart Gilas big man Marcus Douthit who also scored with 9 points.
Gabe Norwood was able to contribute with 7 points while Fonacier added with 4 ponts. Marc Baracael and Sol Mercado contributed with 2 points apiece for a total of 33 points at the end of the first half.
Meanwhile Iran was lead by Kardoust with 12 points, followed by Sahaktan with 8 points tied with Afagh. Baharami contributed only with 3 points, followed by Aslani with 2 points.
If the Philippines could win this one against the Iranian Team, then they will be the only team to defeat the depending champion who is seeking it’s fourth straight title in the tournament.
