The Philippine National Basketball Team, SMART-Gilas Pilipinas begins its campaign in the 34th William Jones Cup on Saturday, August 18. The scheduled game of the Philippine team is just one of the few tournaments that the team will be participating as a preparation for the FIBA Asia Stankovic Cup.
The Smart-Gilas program is considered as one of the long-term Philippine sports program that is being sponsored by one of the Philippines most popular conglomerates, the PLDT Group of Companies headed by CEO Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP)
Joining the ranks of the national team players were PBA stars Enrico Villanueva, Jayson Castro, Larry Fonacier, Ranidel De Ocampo, Sonny Thoss, Mac Baracael, LA Tenorio, Jeff Chan, Gary David, Gabe Norwood, and Sol Mercado.
They will be joined by Marcus Douthit, former San Beda hotshot Garvo Lanete, and Filipino-American point guard Matthew Rosser. The 34th William Jones Cup in Taiwan will be held from August 18-26, 2012.
