Johnriel Casimero Retained the IBF Light Flyweight Title vs. Pedro Guevara

Depending IBF Light Flyweight Champion Johnriel Casimero retained his title after he won with a split decision against Pedro Guevara of Mexico in the title fight held at the hometown of Guevara in Mexico.

Judges Ruben Garcia, Levi Martinez and Matthew Podgorski scored with 116-111, 114-113 113-114 in a split decision win by the Filipino champion. The third man on the ring was referee Ray Corona.

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani predicted that his man Johnriel Casimero was in great shape even before the game have started. The interim title was won by Casimero in one of the most controversial bout involving a riot in Argentina, last February.

The International Boxing Federation Light Flyweight Title fight was held at Guevara in Sinaloa, Mexico.

Johnrile Casimero who has an impressive records of 16 wins and 2 losses with 10 knockouts, defeated the Mexican who was undefeated on his previous fights with a total of 18-0-1 with 13 knock-outs.

The Filipino title-holder Casmimero became champion when former title-holder Ulises Solis indicated he would be unable to defend his title because of surgery on a broken jaw. The IBF had originally extended the deadline to October 30 for Solis’ mandatory defense.

Johnriel Casimero’s trainer Christopher Tepora was also confident even before the start of the game and believed that Casimero could duplicate his win in Argentina.
