The poor dog named, Jess was thrown into the sea on a slipway at Exmouth, Devon by his owner, the 51 year-old, Lucy Jones and 62-year-old John Nesbitt they had been caught on camera, the incident put the owner into a subject of criticism.
But the couple claimed that they were just trying to keep their pet cool and they denied the allegations of the unnecessary suffering of Jess during one summer day last month but the couple were convicted after a trial in the magistrates court.
According to the recorder Paul Dunkels QC who said to Jones that “It was an utterly stupid for Linda Jones to have done. It is something she must never do to that dog or any other dog given such a chance.” the court recorder stated.
Although the judge said there was no sign of evidence to say that Jess had been physically hurt after being thrown, but it was the manner that the animal was thrown into the sea that put Jones under criticism.
Veterinarian David Cooper also stated that it was “probable” the dog would have been caused some “fear and distress” when Jones lifted him to her shoulder and threw the animal in several times as people looked on.
