Loyola Meralco Sparks vs. Geylang United FC Live in AKTV on IBC

The Loyola Meralco Sparks, the lone representative of the Philippines to the 2012 RHB Singapore Cup will open up their first match this coming Friday, May 18, 2012 to be held in Singapore. The Philippine Team, Loyola Meralco Sparks will battle it out against Singapore’s Geylang United at around 7:30 P.M. The match between the two teams will be aired live by AKTV on IBC 13.

Loyola Meralco Sparks is spearheaded by two of the Philippine Azkals mainstays, James and Phil Younghusband, the most recognized Filipino-footballer during the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup after winning the Golden Boot Awards.

The third-ranked team from the United Football League of the Philippines will square-off with some of the region’s best football clubs from Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei and Japanese sides that compete in the Singapore League against some of the prominent teams currently competing in the Singapore League.

The Loyola Meralco Sparks will represent the Philippines in a game which will surely caught the attention of Filipinos who were leaving and working in Singapore. The format of the game is a 16-team, single-elimination bracket tournament. The first team to be encountered by the Filipinos is the Geylang United FC, currently ranked at the bottom of Singapore League team standings.

Some of the notable Filipino players playing for the Loyola Meralco Sparks aside from the Younghusband brothers were Mark Hartmann, Roxy Dorlas, Jake Morallo, and Anto Gonzales.
