The “Hawaain Punch” Brian Viloria was able to dominate the two-time depending light flyweight champion and retained his WBO Lightweight title against Omar Romero of Mexico. The battle which was held today at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo, Rizal was being sanctioned by the WBO. It was shown live on pay-per-view through the facilities of Solars Sports.
Brian Viloria’s win over the Mexican challenger ended the Viloria vs. Romero triology, wherein Viloria suffered one loss, a no contest and finally a TKO to end the speculations of Viloria’s capabilities as a world champion.
The Mexican visitor, Romero was not able to counter-attack on the barrage of punches that was thrown by Viloria on almost all rounds except the first two rounds wherein he was able to contained the depending champion. On the third round Viloria started to dominate Romero and he was nearly floored at the fourth round.
Viloria’s fury of punches was unanswered by Romero on the next round, he even suffered cuts from his left eyebrows but continued to take a stand against the depending champion. There were some instances that due to the hard punches suffered by Romero he mistook the neutral corner as his corner to the delight of the fans watching.
In almost all rounds the depending champion dominated the match but it was during the 9th round at around 2:06 when American referee Michael Ortega called off the fight and decided a Technical Knock-Out in favor of the champion Brian “The Hawaaiian Punch” Viloria as the winner and still the WBO Lightweight Champion of the World.
Meanwhile on the supporting bouts Rodel Mayol was able to secure a win against Julio Cesar Miranda via Unaminous Decision with the scores at 100-87 | 99-90 | 97-91 all in favor of Mayol. On the other supporting bouts for the WBO Oriental Bantamweight Title, Dayer Gabutan Singwancha defeated Dado Cabintoy via Unaminous Decision with the final score at 116-112 | 115-113 | 116-112.
