A group of Filipino hackers who called themselves as Anonymous Philippines have retaliated with the defacement of the University of the Philippines website last Friday and hacked three Chinese websites by defacing the websites and leaving messages regarding the latest stand-off at the Scarborough Shoal and the Spratlys.
On Saturday, April 22, the Chinese University websites of Chinese University Media Union (UMU) sub-websites was under attacked by hackers that were allegedly came from the Philippines. The group Anonymous #OccupyPhilippines replaced the main page with a defaced website that declared “Scarborough Shoal is ours!” Accompanying the defaced front page was a loud screaming music in the background.
Aside from the UMU websites that was broken into by Anonymous hackers, other government institutions were under attacked also.
Here are the list of the websites being attacked by the hackers allegedly came from the Philippines with their respective links:
- China Youth Online
- P. Loft Youth Hostel
- Chinese government website
- Chinese University Media Union (UMU)
The hackers have used the commonly-used technique used by the hackers from different parts of the world, the DDOS attacked.
DDoS is a form of cyber attack used by hacking groups to take down particular websites, which involves overwhelming the website’s server by executing external commands from a number of terminals, subsequently crippling the server indefinitely.
