The American Idol runner-up seems to believe on Leo Buscaglia’s quote that says “your talent is God’s gift to you; what you do with it is your gift back to God” knowing that he’ll be taking a break to serve a two-year proselytizing mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or popularly known as Mormon.

According to KSL.com, David Archuleta made a surprising announcement during the Christmas concert in Salt Lake City saying he “wanted to make a special announcement while he was home.” In the said concert, the 20-year-old singer seemed emotional, putting his head down and covering his eyes. The crowd then screams wildly with his news and gives him a standing ovation.

Serving an LDS mission was his choice telling the crowd that “it’s not because someone told me that I’m supposed to do it, and not because I no longer want to do music, but because it’s the feeling that I’ve felt I need to do this with my life.”

The spokesman of the church, Eric Hawkins confirmed David’s announcement saying that the singer had been called on a mission by faith, but he declined to disclose where the singer will serve.

In a statistics released by the Church, they have more than 350 missions worldwide, of about 75 percent of missionaries, both men between 19 and 21 and single ingle women over 21 and retired couples make up the remaining 25 percent. Missionaries volunteer for service, but must be selected by program officials in Salt Lake City. They are not paid and must cover their own expenses while in the field.

Surely, more of his fans are proud of him… there is more to LIFE than FAME… GOD is OUR LIFE!
