Palawan Underground River of the Philippines is listed as One of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Voting results for the New 7 Wonders were provisionally announced. On the list are the following: the Amazon Rainforest, Halong Bay, Iguazu Falls, Jeju Island, Komodo and Puerto Princesa Underground River and Table Mountain.

Initial counting of the votes has been released and was announced in the official site of the new7wonders. Results were published on Friday dated November 11, 2011 popularly known as the rare and significant 11-11-11.

Philippines is very proud that its very own Puerto Princesa Underground River was included on the precious list after the many active campaigns held.

This good news brought joy, hope and excitement to the Filipinos most especially to those inhabitants near the Palawan Underground River. It is expected that Puerto Princesa, Palawan will be welcoming more guests and tourists now that the Underground River has been one of the country’s must-see treasure.

Mayor Edward Hagedorn of Puerto Princesa told the media that there are lots of tourists that gradually come to the place. The number of visitors were even doubled especially that the said natural resource is now in line with the other new wonders of the world.

According to Mayor Hagedorn, there were a total of 160,000 tourists who came to visit the place in 2007 until the number of visitors ballooned to 425,000 as of last year’s tally.

Reports stated that a possible influx of tourists may run rapidly as the government authorities in Palawan in making actions to compensate the needs of those who will want to enjoy the scenery and adventures within the beautiful spot of Puerto Princesa.

Apparently, it was also added that Puerto Princesa is running out of rooms to accommodate the doubling number of guests. Mayor Hagedorn brings the hope that Puerto Princesa will be constructing new buildings with more rooms to serve better in the next few months.

On the other hand, the Global Poll organizers cautioned that changes could be possible as the official results of the New 7 Wonders of the World will yet be announced early next year.

The Philippine government campaigns to preserve the said national treasure.
