Dwight Myers, the inspirational, smooth rap pioneer, record producer, singer and actor, who is popularly known as Heavy D died last November 8 in Los Angeles at the age of 44.
Heavy D was the former leader of the hip hop band ‘Heavy D and the Boyz’ that includes Eddie F, ‘Trouble’ T Roy and G-Whiz that appeared to be charismatic hip hop’s popular figure in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Their songs “Big Tyme” (1989), “Peaceful Journey” (1991), which was dedicated to the one of the Boyz Trouble T-Roy who died from a fall when their group was on tour in the year 1990, and “Nuttin’ but Love” (1994) went to platinum that even made them popular.
Moreover, Myers’ influence and success was extended when he became the president of Uptown Records in the mid-1990’s, which also made their group in trendy. He recorded songs for Michael Jackson ‘Jam’ in 1991, and made an amusing role in the video for ‘One More Chance.’
He was not only known for his music, because recently, he made persistent roles in TV shows like ‘Roc’, ‘The Tracy Morgan Show’, and ‘Boston Public’; he was also part of the films ‘The Cider House Rules’, ‘Step Up’ and ‘Tower Heist.’
The romantic rapper, who dubbed himself as an “overweight lover” made his last tweet last Tuesday morning “BE INSPIRED”, knowing that it will be his last message to his fans. Later that evening, Heavy D collapsed at his home and was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but he died shortly after noon. Heavy D’s death appeared to be ‘medical’ because of pneumonia.
