Donaire vs Narvaez: Oct 22 bout at MSG, The Mecca of Boxing

Donaire vs. NarvaezNonito Donaire is back!

After all the controversies that he had been especially in his family and a little in his boxing career, The Filipino Flash Nonito Donaire is set to face Omar Andres Narvaez this coming October 22 in New York.

Donaire, last September 19 had his first in New York for his upcoming bout and with his fight versus Narvaez, he was the first reigning Filipino boxer who would be fighting in the place coined as “The Mecca of Boxing”, at the Madison Square Garden’s WaMu Theater.

MSG or the Madison Square Garden in New York was called the Mecca of Boxing after the place became the venue of big title bout such as in 1971’s historic heavyweight title fight of Muhammad Ali versus Joe Frazier.

The last Filipino who was able to showcase his boxing strength at the “Mecca of Boxing” was Gabriel “Flash” Elorde.

Donaire, 28, was ranked number 4 in the world as a pound-for-pound king. On that same ranking, it was the People’s Champ, Manny Pacquiao who had been dominating the list. Furthermore, Pacquiao is to face for the third time the Mexican Boxer Juan Manuel Marquez this November 12.

In an article published in gmanews.tv, it was said that Donaire admitted that his fight against 36 year-old Narvaez might be his last fight for the 118 pounds. Donaire is already looking forward in fighting for a higher weight so that he can take a rest and to relax from strict diet.

The October 22 match would test Donaire’s potential as he face and exchange mighty fists to the current WBO Super Flyweight Champ Narvaez. Narvaez is an Argentine boxer who had been playing for the Summer Olympics as he represented his country. He had an amazing record of (35-0-2, 19 KO).

On the other hand, the much younger Donaire at 28, had his last victory over Fernando Montiel with his second round knockout punched. He is currently having a record of (26-1, 18 KO).
