UN calls international community to help in restoring Libya

United NationsAfter the rebels had announced that they had the almost full control on Tripoli, Libya’s capital which had been under the leadership and protection of Gaddafi, UN Chief Ban Ki-Moon raised an important call to the international community and that was to work together in bringing back and restoring Libya.

Early this year, crisis in Libya had erupted leading to damages in properties and infrastructures as well lost of lives due to fighting between Gaddafi’s force against Libyan rebels.

Recently, the rebels had successfully entered the capital and the fighting was drove to the eastern part of the country.

According to the reports published, at present there were still fighting taking place but the center of the city was already at peace. In fact, people had been visiting the mosques for Friday prayers.

As result to the war and crisis, it was further reported that shortage continues especially when it comes to fuel, food and medical supplies. Reports related to human rights violations and abuses were also increasing as the crisis was slowing down. The reports were coming both within and around Tripoli.

Aside from that, one of the biggest news that had erupted in Libya was that there were more than 200 dead bodies that were abandoned at the hospital in the Abu Salim district.

As described by BBC’s John Simpson, the scene in the hospital defied the imagination and that the floors were thick with blood.

Quoted, he said: “One of the most terrible incidents in the revolution.”

From Mr. Ban’s perspective on the current state of Libya, he pointed it out that at present, the crisis that the country is facing is entering to “new and decisive phase”. He explained that by this time, the emphasis as he calls for help from the international community is to help in (–foul word(s) removed–)uring the smooth transition of leadership for Libya.

To help in achieving total peace in Libya, Mr. Ban added that the international community must help Libya when it comes to police support considering the fact that the country had been into fighting and that the “country is wash with small arms.”
