
Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri’s resignation was hailed by many politicians and political analysts as a graceful exit for a senator who had been under constant attacked from his rival during the 2007 elections. The rivalry between the two gentlemen from the Southern Philippines have been four years in the making.
The gentleman senator from Bukidnon have been a legislative members for the past few years and he had made significant contributions not only to his district in Bukidnon but also the entire country as well while serving as a senator for four years.

Senator Zubiri was the son of former legislators Representative Jose Ma. R. Zubiri. He served as a congressman during the 10th Congress, serving for three terms. He was considered as one of the most prolific member of the legislative department of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.
Senator Zubiri served as the Majority Floor Leader of the Senate of the Philippines from November 17, 2008 to June 30, 2010. He (–foul word(s) removed–)umed office as Majority Floor Leader after Senator Francis Pangilinan. He was then succeeded by Senator Vicente Sotto III as Majority Floor Leader.
The resignation of Senator Migs Zubiri was commended by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile for thinking the nation first in his decision to relinquish his position. The Senate President acknowledged also the contributions made by Senator Migs Zubiri.
He was quoted as saying “Never in my expectation when I (–foul word(s) removed–)umed this position as President of the Senate that I would witness today a very rare show of moral courage, when a member of this august chamber, in defense of his honor and his family’s honor, had decied to turn back on the power of a Senate of the Republic of the Philippines; to go out into the arena out there in defense of his self,” Enrile said.
