
The 2nd round of qualification for the Asian World Cup Qualifiers have ended in an that was predicted by many sports analysts. The favourites have prevailed. Higher ranked team have moved on to the third round of qualification for the FIFA 2014 World Cup to be held in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
Matches from different parts of Asia have their own stories to tell but two significant events have been happening during the 2nd leg of Asia’s 2nd Round Qualification. One was the abandoned game between Oman and Myanmar. The game was halted when the audiences have hurled objects to the venue that caused disruption at around 90+2. Oman was leading with a score of 2-0, the same score during the first leg in which they prevail.
Another surprise with the 2nd round was the match of Malaysia versus Singapore. The Malayan Tigers who have been supported by 85,000 strong home crowd have scored the first goal against their neighbor Singapore. The Malaysians needs a two goal margin to win in aggregate but they failed. Singapore Lions have managed to end the game with a draw and a trip to the third round with 6-4 aggregate scores ending the Malaysians World Cup dreams.
The top 14 teams of 2nd round of elimination will now go up against the top Asians teams including Australia which was now part of the Asia Oceania FIFA zone. Asians teams that was already seeded to compete in the next round of qualification were Asia’s dominant teams which includes Japan, South Korea, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, Bahrain and Australia.
There were six West Asians that will now moved on to the third round of qualifications. There were three South East Asians qualified to the the third round namely Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.
Other teams that will proceed to the next round of Asian Qualification. The opponents will be determined by drawing of lots to be held in Brazil on July 30, 2011.
