Lucy Mangum was just an ordinary 6 year old girl but his story of survival against one of the deadliest shark attacked on shallow waters have became phenomenal. The daughter of Jordan Mangum and Craig Mangum was the latest victim of shark attacks the put in perils those who were swimming in beaches in continental America.
The accident happened last July 19 at Ocrakoke Beach on the Outer Banks. The 6 year old girl was playing with her boogie board at around 18 inches of water last Tuesday, the time was estimated at around 5 P.M. in the afternoon. According to the little girl she saw a shark towards her direction.
The little girl was quoted and said, “I tried to swim” she said. Unfortunately in a split seconds the shark have already grabbed her right leg and foot. A two deep bite marks from the shark which was believed to be a tiger sharks, exposed the girls right leg muscles and tendons.
According to the accounts of her mother who was with her while interviewed by ABC, she was quoted as saying, “I heard her scream so I immediately turned towards her and at that point saw the shark right next to her,” the mother told ABC.
The mother of Lucy further adds that “I ran over to her and at this point it hadn’t really crossed my mind that she had been bitten, I just wanted to get her out of the water…I saw that she was injured pretty badly… it was a pretty big gash.” said Jordan Mangum.
Jordan Mangum immediately grabbed her daughter who had been bitten twice already and moved out of the water. Meanwhile when the father, Craig Mangum had heard the scream of her daughter and his wife, he immediately rushed to the waters and approached the two who were already panicking.
Craig Mangum who have worked as an emergency room physician, looked at the injuries and wrapped their daughter’s leg in a T-shirt. His background as a medical worker have played an important role in applying first aid for her daughter before it was airlifted to the nearest hospital.
According to her mother Lucy was still calm while they were already on the beach, although she asked some questions like “Am I going to die? Am I going to walk? Am I going to have a wheelchair?” The mother of Lucy was so blessed for having a daughter like Lucy. She had one special and last request which they granted.
Lucy Mangum asked something a little girl could never thought off. The 6 year old shark attack survivor was quoted as saying, “Dad, can we say a prayer?” The family was astonished with the request of their daughter and they said a prayer in the beach.
Right now the latest shark survivor 6 year old girl was still recuperating from her injury but her story of courage and strong Faith have been on constant topic among the social media and the mainstream media.
