PBA All Stars selection had lost to the Smart NBA All Star Selection during the first game of the highly anticipated duel between the best players from the Philippines against the NBA’s future Hall of Famers. PBA All Stars have managed to score 103 points against 131 by the NBA All Stars. The visiting NBA players showed their basketball skills to the delight of the Filipino fans. The PBA All Stars have also given their best but was not enough against the much talented NBA players.
Sacramento Kings center Javalee McGee top scored for the NBA All Stars unleashing 25 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. The All Star casts of the NBA have also provided the much needed excitement that the fans were waiting for. Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers who had just visited the country and came back for the game, showed to the fans why he was able to brought home championship rings for the Lakers.
NBA’s scoring champion Kevin Durant scored with 22 points and 5-time NBA Champion Kobe Bryant added with 12 points most of the shots were spectacular slam dunks. One of the highlights of the game was the (–foul word(s) removed–)ist given by Bryant to the NBA MVP Derrick Rose which ended in a dunk to the delight of the Filipino crowds. Kobe while driving made a one handed fake over the back and pulls forward an alley-opp (–foul word(s) removed–)ist to Derrick Rose.
The PBA selection have no high profile superstars as what the NBA enjoys but they have managed to pull a lead during the first quarter at 14-12 but since then they were trailing for the rest of the game. The Philippines have no NBA players unlike other European or Asian countries therefore there is no immediate threat to the visiting NBA players. Arwind Santos spearheaded the offense from the PBA All Stars. He top scored with 25 points to show to the visitors that Filipinos have talents.
The visiting NBA All Stars were composed of LA Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, Reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder, JaValee McGee of the Washington Wizards, star point guard Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets.
Another members of the All Star Cast NBA players were Derek Fisher of the Lakers, Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings, James Harden of the Thunder and rookie Derrick Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Suiting up for the PBA All Star Selection came from different teams of the Philippine Basketball (–foul word(s) removed–)ociation. Another highlights of the game was the inauguration of the former Big Dome Araneta Coliseum which will be called Smart Araneta Coliseum. The new name was made through the partnership of Smart Communications and the Araneta Coliseum.
