Google Doodle joins 450th Anniversary celebration of St. Basil Cathedral in Moscow

st. Basil CathedralHave you notice something on the photo embedded as the backdrop of the logo when you opened google.com today? This may appear like a castle and to the travellers it may appear very familiar for this is one of the popular land marks in Russia.

In connection to the celebration today, July 12 of the 450th anniversary of this historic church, the St. Basil Cathedral, the world’s leading search engine had joined the celebration by making it as one of the Google Doodle.

Looking back at the history, St. Basil Cathedral was constructed in 1561 as a sign of victory against the Mongol who had once dominated and invaded Russia. Six years were spent for the completion of the church based on the order issued by Ivan the Terrible.

But what makes this cathedral known over the years was that it was the place were St. Basil was buried. St. Basil Cathedral is also known as Cathedral of the Protection of Most Holy Theotokos on the Moat and it is located at the Red Square in Moscow, Russia.

This amazing Orthodox Church had been part of the photos and even backdrop for concerts and various celebrations. The original blue print consists that of eight churches which surrounds the central church, however an additional church was added following the death of St. Basil.

This design of the infrastructure is considered to be one of a kind and in fact, according to legends, the architect who had created the design was blinded so that it will not be able to create a replica of this structure anymore to any other place.

Google Doodle is simply about Google logo. These were specialized logo which depicts some of the world’s biggest event for that day, just like today’s doodle with the St. Basil Cathedral.
