Nonito Donaire Received Warning From WBC for Title Defense

WBC may strip his title
WBC Bantamweight Champion Nonito Donaire

The World Boxing Council had warned the WBC Bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire to depend his Title for the WBC Mandatory title defense according to the rules implemented by the World Boxing Council. According to the notice made by the WBC, they had already contacted Nonito twice but he did not replied.

It has been four months and thirteen days since he first  defeated Mexican Fernando Montiel in two rounds on February 19. As a title-holder he is obliged to train harder and depend his WBC championship belt. Donaire had never depended the title since he held the title.

According to the notice given to Nonito Donaire, the Filipino Flash had not yet replied to the notice. Nonito had been reported earlier that he was involved on a contract dispute between Top Rank and the Golden Boy promotions in which Top Rank prevailed as the one who had the right for Donaire.

The Filipino Flash had worked so hard to earned the title and losing the title without a fight is a tragedy for Nonito. He is considered as one of the greatest pound-for-pound boxer alongside Filipino Manny Pacquiao and if he loosed one of his belt it will be a stained on his record as an undisputed world title holder.

The World Boxing Council had released it’s official statement on their official website. The message were as follows:

“The World Boxing Council established communication twice with WBC Bantamweight world champion, Nonito Donaire, of The Philippines, by virtue of the fact that Donaire won his title by defeating “Cochulito” Montiel, of Mexico, on February 19th, 2011, and has not put his title on the line.”

“From the previously mentioned date up to now, four months and 13 days have gone by; Donaire has held the title since then, but has not made any defense of it.”

“Our rules and regulations obligate all champions to make a title defense every four months, as six months without doing so represent declaring the title vacant.”

“Considering the aforementioned facts, Nonito Donaire is being notified in time that he must comply with his obligations as a champion, and so far, we have not received a reply from the Philippine fighter.” WBC stated on it’s website.

Different news media organization from the Philippines tried to contact Donaire for his statement but right now there is no sign of reply from the camp of the “Filipino Flash.”
