
Billy the Kid portrait went to a wealthy businessman William Koch after a Wild West auction held last Saturday night. Sold for $2.3 million, the only authenticated photograph of this legendary outlaw was said to exist for almost 130 years.
The picture taken in Fort Sumner, New Mexico was believed to be the last authenticated photo of the Billy the Kid likewise known as William Henry McCarty or William H. Bonney.
At the Denver auction, the bidding was finally concluded with a huge applause following several amazements not just from the people within the room but even by the auction spokeswoman named Melissa McCracken as well. She couldn’t believe to witness such kind of auction considering the bid to be “absolutely crazy”.
At first, there were only five bidders who voiced out for the auction. In a span of only two minutes the bid was raised to millions of dollars.
Based on reports, Billy the Kid merely paid 25 cents for the photo. Who would have thought that it would worth millions of dollars in our time?
Legend tells that Billy the Kid was able to gunshot 21 men but most of the history experts believed that he killed nine at most.
Notorious outlaw Billy the Kid died at age 21 and he is also considered to be folk hero who is loved by many.
