Just as we thought that everyone have seen the shortest person alive, here comes another Filipino to possibly beat the title for the world’s shortest man.
Along with the Philippine Independence Day celebration on June 12 marks the official declaration that Junrey Balawing, a Filipino, now holds the title for the shortest man alive.
On Sunday, Balawing of Zamboanga del Norte got multiple reasons to celebrate after the Guinness World Records handed him the title for the world’s shortest man in his 18th birthday during the Independence Day.
Soon after the Guinness handed Balawing the title, a report came out that another Filipino seems to grab his title few years from now. He was Jason Ansad, 10, from the same province where Balawing lives.
From Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte comes Ansad who stands to be 20 inches tall. His height has a difference of 3.6 inches from that of Balawing’s actual measure. Indeed, the boy named Jason Ansad is really shorter and could beat the current title holder.
But then, report says that Ansad can neither walk nor talk. His parents are unaware of how his condition had developed while saying that they can’t even afford a medical check-up for their son Jason.
According to an endocrinologist named Dr Nemencio Nicodemus Jr, both Filipinos namely Jason Ansad and Junrey Balawing are under severe cases of a medical disorder called dwarfism.
Dr Nicodemus explains that their growth hormones were said to be low making their “secondary sexual characteristics” to develop poorly. The endocrinologist also defended that dwarfism is under the case of genetic disorder and is not acquired from the surrounding environment.
Knowing that Ansad and Balawing both came from Zamboanga del Norte does not necessarily mean that their cases developed from their surroundings. He further tells that it was a mere chance.
With that, the doctor gave an advice by saying that Ansad might be having a brain tumor as he needs to be medically examined as soon as possible. Since Ansad is still below 18 years of age, he has still the chance to be cured based on the doctor’s explanation.
However, Jason’s family admitted that they don’t have enough money to pay for the boy’s treatment which could cost at least P2, 000 per injection.
His family is willing to let him undergo treatment. Jason’s mother Virginia currently seeks (–foul word(s) removed–)istance to anyone who is willing to extend their help on the financial concerns for Jason’s possible cure.
