The environmental group from Palawan had intensified their “no to mining in Palawan” campaign against the proposed mining projects in Palawan. The Save Palawan Movement initiated a signature campaign which was launched last February 2011 aims to stop the mining activities in Palawan. It was supported by different environmental groups and religious organizations.
The movement was supported by different prominent personalities even by one of the biggest news media organization in the Philippines, the ABS-CBN. Mayor Edward Hagedorn had also lend his support to the signature campaign. Fr. Robert Reyes the running priest was also vocal in his support to the signature campaign.
The “no to mining in Palawan” signature campaigns aims to collect a total of 10 million signatures to deliver a strong message to the government and the companies involved regarding the rejections of the residents of Palawan and the support of the public to preserved the last remaining environmental frontiers of the Philippines.
The signature campaign had been intensified for the past few months and right now as of this writing there were already a total of 1.2 million signatures and continues to rise.
In order for us to help those people who are making the campaign, I urge everybody to sign the petition.
