A devastating Tornado hit Missouri town of Joplin last sunday killing 24 people, this is according to the local media report.
The number of dead people in Joplin which reached to 24 was confirmed by Ryan Nicholls of the Springfield-Greene County office of emergency management and was reported by the Springfield News-Leader.
The town of Joplin was directly hit by the tornado and most of the establishments in the place were badly destroyed. One of the Photographer of News-Leader, John Miller describe the situation of the place and said that The Home Depot is leveled. The Walmart is destroyed. Gas stations, buildings was heavily damaged.
He also said that he saw a girl being pulled out by the paramedics in a car which was trapped after a part of the building has fallen on it.
The tornado struck less than a month after a tornado outbreak left 354 dead across seven US states.
The National Guard troops has already been activated after the Governor of Missouri, Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency. Multiple buildings were destroyed including the St. John’s Regional Medical Center which was badly affected and were evacuated last Sunday.
In a statement given by Governor Nixon, he said that “These storms have caused extensive damage across Missouri, and they continue to pose significant risk to lives and property”. He also added that they are doing their best to help every people affected by the tornado by deploying all their resources available.
A warning was also given by the governor that the storm is not yet finished and that Missourians must keep on eye on the latest update on the weather to avoid any injuries and accidents to happen if such storm will strike again.
One of the survivors in the incident is Jerry Williams, (–foul word(s) removed–)istant vice president at Missouri Southern State University describe this experience as a “horrific” one.
He said that he saw some areas flattened and places were gone after the tornado p(–foul word(s) removed–)ed the area. “It’s like somebody dropped a bomb or something”.
