Joseph Brooks, a 73-year-old Academy Award-winning songwriter of “You Light Up My Life” apparently died of suicide inside his apartment in Manhattan according to police authorities.

The incident was discovered at about 12:30 p.m. by a friend who supposes to have a scheduled lunch with Brooks in his Upper East Side apartment.

According to the police spokesman named Paul Browne, there was a plastic dry-cleaning bag found around the head of Joseph Brooks along with a towel that was wrapped round his neck.

Hooked up to the bag was a hose attached to a helium tank, uttered Browne. However, police could not still determine how long Brooks’ body had stayed there.

In order to know the real cause behind the songwriter’s death, an autopsy will soon be carried out through a medical examiner. Meanwhile, there had been a suicide note that was found by police officials but they choose not to reveal the contents of the said letter.

Brooks is still waiting for the court’s decision regarding his case of molesting women who have been lured to his apartment. But brooks pleaded that he was not guilty. There were reports that the songwriter was accused after being involved with sex-related charges of over 80 cases.

Joseph Brooks expects a court’s decision after he had been charged to sexually (–foul word(s) removed–)ault several minors luring inside his apartment who were said  to undergo auditions on acting.

In 1977, an Academy Award for best original song had been given to Brooks for his ballad “You Light Up My Life”. Such similar song also brought him fame for a Grammy Award.

Joseph had a 24-year-old son named Nicholas Brooks who was also arrested for the death of Sylvie Cachay, a fashion designer. Cachay had been found dead at hotel bathtub in SoHo House of New York City.
