
CANNES, France – He might be banned from the festival but the Dannish Director Lars Von Trier had proven that his work his exemplary and that his casts is powerful.
His lead actress for his entry entitled “Melancholia” grabbed the Best Actress award for the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Part of his sanction upon his statement that he is a sympathizer of Hitler is for him 100 meters away from the venue of the awarding for the said festival serving as the finale of the event which run from May 11 – 22.
US actress Kirsten Dunst was able to take the highest female award of the said festival. In the movie “Melancholia”, she portrayed the character of a depressed woman in a world that is about to end.
“Thank you so much for this honor, which is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. And thank you to the Cannes film festival for letting it still be in competition,” Dunst said.
And she also thanked her director Lars Von Trier even if he was not around.
Von Trier, at 55 is a winner of Palme d’Or way back year 2000 for his entry “Dancer in the Dark.”
And for this year, the film “The Tree of Life” who was directed by US director Terrence Malick’s received the Palme d’ Or for Best Picture. The movie is a drama depicting the value of family and life.
Other winners for this year’s festival includes French artist Jean Dujardin who took the Best Actor award for the silent film called “The Artist.” This film is a French movie but it was shot at Los Angeles for it tells about that silent era featuring Hollywood.
