Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the agency that tracks the weather in the Philippines has announced last Tuesday that there is a potential typhoon coming towards the country.

The said tropical storm was formed near Guam last week and it was called Songda, it is expected to bring bad weather in large portion of the country if it will enter with in the area of responsibility.

According to Pagasa’s advisory the storm is expected to enter the country on Sunday night and it will be named as Typhoon Chedeng.

Typhoon Chedeng was last spotted 1,070 kilometers east of Mindanao, it carries 85 kilometer winds with a gustiness of 100kph and traveling west northwest at 11kph.

Pagasa has given an (–foul word(s) removed–)urance to the public that they will closely monitor the cyclone and will give an update to the public time to time. They have also notified the disaster councils so that it can prepare their evacuation plans.

According to Robert Sawi, chief forecaster of Pagasa, he said that the storm could become a typhoon upon entering the country and it could be stronger in the next few days to over 100kph.

Sawi also added that they are worried that Typhoon Chedeng will be more destructive as it approaches to land because it is getting more time to consolidate and gather more strength.

He also said that if the new storm won’t accelerate as it approaches the country it might also become like the past typhoon “Bebeng”, it will be slow and would bring heavier down pour to its path.

On Tuesday, Pagasa said that the storm will hit the eastern Visayas and Cagayan Province. Some part of northeast and Central Luzon will also be affected by the storm.

Metro Manila and the western seaboard will also experience heavy rains and thunderstorms brought by potential typhoon by Wednesday or Thursday although these areas would not be hit by the disturbance, Sawi said.
