Google plans to give users more control in the information they want to share on their online profile, this is in line to the company’s promise of privacy control.
Google chairman Eric Schmidt spoke in the UK conference on privacy and during the event he said that their company is taking seriously the matter of privacy. He even added that they are in the consumers side in dealing this issue.
This is after the inquiries of the US senate when it comes to the boundary or limit of how much location is being stored in the handset.
Recently, news spread that Android phones which is under Google is leaking data that once stolen, it has the potential an instrument to get information that is stored online.
It was the German security research who discovered the said finding in their study of how Android phones handle this identification information.
Quoted, Mr. Schmidt said, “In general we take the position that you own your data and should be opt in or out of a service.”
Part of Google’s plan is to increase transparency. And they are looking forward of implementing a revised Google Dashboard wherein the users will be able to check and see the data that they are sharing in the search giant.
But, Mr. Schmidt added that they can only offer that feature to the data being shared to Google. He further continued that Google Dashboard can’t be a vacuum-cleaner for everything on the internet.
Google’s privacy plan were even strengthened after a hearing in the US Senate. During the hearing, Google was quizzed about Android phone and the amount of data stored. However, the company stressed that they are giving their users choice to opt those of location – based services.
Moreover, Mr. Schmidt admitted that their terms and conditions signed up by their users will be simplified. And in the future, he predicted that such services will be in harmony soon.
