
Michel Martelly, a former pop star, has been sworn in as Haiti president on Saturday. Martelly is now recognized to be Haiti’s 56th President.
Dignitaries and guests were formally dressed to witness the inauguration. However, before the inauguration began, the electricity went out that even the VIPs such as the former President of United States Bill Clinton and the French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe have to fan themselves as a comfort against the striking heat of May. For others, the blackout was considered to be a sign of Haiti’s troubles.
Even at present, most of the Haitians still settle in tent cities due to the devastating earthquake that swiped their country previously. Haiti is known to be America’s poorest country today.
But that moment didn’t hinder the ceremony to go on. Port-au-Prince tightened the security on Saturday as the peacekeepers of the United Nations guarded the street corners. Martelly was able to take his oath as he proudly face in from of the many media cameras.
In Twitter, Martelly proudly posted his own inauguration being the 56th president of Haiti. Few minutes after his tweet, a lot of messages rise hoping that a great change will be happening soon.
Thousands of Haiti people cheered believing that the inauguration is a primary step for change. That moment brought happiness to the nation which has been troubled with cholera epidemic and struggling to recover from the earthquake aftermath.
Martelly faced the media in his dark suit and red tie as he proudly promised for a change. He emphasized the need of public safety improvement and he promised the young Haitians to be provided with free education. He also had sworn to end corruption on the government which plagued Haiti for many years.
The candidacy of Michel Martelly was indeed unexpected. Popularly called as Sweet Micky, the bad-boy pop star pleased the Haitians. Now, he proudly stands to begin his duty as the 56th president of Haiti.
