After the suspension given to the TV 5 game show “Willing Willie” which will last for 30 days. The Movie Review and Television and Cl(–foul word(s) removed–)ification Board or (MTRCB) now warns local TV industry to be careful in what they are airing in the Television and this scenario should serve as a wake up for them to educate their talents.
According to the camp of TV host Willie Revillame, they cleared out that even though the show was suspended, this doesn’t mean that he was pronounced guilty of Child abuse or exploitation which a lot of people alleged to him, following the episode where a 6 years old boy performed a macho dancing while crying in his program Willing Willie.
Adjudication committee chair person, Noel del Prado, said that the jurisdiction was strictly administrative and did not cover the question of child abuse. He explained that under the 14-page resolution (–foul word(s) removed–)erted by the committee that it is the networks and talents responsibility to educate themselves in regards with the gender sensitivity, children and women’s right issues, the right of indigenous people, persons with disabilities, senior citizen and other marginalized sectors in the society.
In one of the interviews to MTRCB board chair Mary Grace Poe- Llamanzares she said that TV networks should be able to police themselves and watch out with their actions.
One of the committee members Carmen Musngi added that networks should not think just about ratings of their shows and must take considerations of the effect of their actions to the viewing public.
Llamanzares said that she was sure there would be negative feedbacks about their decision of the 30 days suspension and some would say that they want heftier punishment. However she said that they give credit to the voluntary suspension made by the show, and they don’t want to give a wrong impression to other networks that the board did not recognize the networks swift action in the issue. She added that the only concern of the board is for industry to practice self-regulation.
She also cleared out that the board is not only concerned on giving punishment to the show but they are also offering a constructive resolution so that such incidents will not happen again. .” After all, she said, protection of children is not the sole responsibility of the MTRCB. “We need to work with industry leaders and other government agencies to come up with specific guidelines.”
