‘Rio’ still ranks No. 1 in the Box Office

“Rio”, an animated film featuring the voices of Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg overtook the ranking of “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family” on the North American box office weekend top list.

As it continues to bring fun and adventure to the family, the animated film Rio has grabbed $26.8 million that it had maintained to be the No.1 movie for two consecutive weeks based on the studio estimates presented on Sunday.

Meanwhile, writer-director Tyler Perry released his latest film introducing grandma Madea’s boisterous and opinionated character who pulls her clan together despite crisis had took $25.8 million on its debut that closely stood next to Rio’s ranking. It tried to knock the Rio but failed to surp(–foul word(s) removed–) the top spot.

Third on the list is “Water for Elephants” with $17.5 million starring a circus romance between the Robert Pattinson who starred as a vet joining a travelling circus and eventually falls in love with another star performer, Reese Witherspoon.

“Rio” and “Water for Elephants” are two among the top three films that was released by the 20th Century Fox.

Other new films to appear in the top 10 movies of United States and Canada box office is the Disney’s “African Cats” – a nature documentary which stood at No.6 over the weekend acquiring $6.4 million.

Adding the total revenue resulted to $138 million winning 39% on a second weekend running of last year.

The trend is expected to continually rise on the following weekend with “Fast Five,” as the newest film in “The Fast and the Furious” action franchise. According to Paul Dergarabedian, box office tracker of the website Hollywood.com, “Fast Five” is predicted to welcome a big premiere.
