Go green, go vegetarian

Raya Mananquil stripped down in front of the camera to help the ‘People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) in its campaign against animal cruelty for Earth Day, April 22.

The top model is cradling a baby pig and wearing a green bikini calling on the public to stop eating meat in PETA’s Earth Day ad, which had the caption “Go Green. Go Vegetarian.”

“I am encouraging everyone to go vegetarian, to stop abuse and cruelty to animals all around the world,” Mananquil said in a statement released by PETA.

“And a vegetarian diet is a great way to help the environment, so what better time to start than Earth Day?”

The latest ad of PETA is yet another hit at the meat industry, which the group claiming that it causes “immense suffering” to animals raised and killed for food.

It added that meat and dairy production can take a toll on a person’s health as well as on the environment.

Jason Baker PETA Asia director said, “The easiest way for everyone to fight climate change this Earth Day is to kick the meat habit.”

PETA said, citing United Nations’ recent report, a global shift toward a vegetarian diet is necessary to combat the worst effects of climate change.

Benefits highlighted by the group about the diet free of meat, eggs and dairy products.

PETA said, “Being vegetarian it can lower the risk of heart disease, strokes, cancer, diabetes, obesity and acne in adults as well as allergies, ear infections and juvenile-onset diabetes in children.”

Aside from the top model Raya Mananquil, other stars that have turned vegetarian include Geneva Cruz, Natalie Portman, Pamela Anderson, Maggie Q, Sir Paul McCartney, and Barbie Hsu.

  1. I like this ad! But isn’t Raya too skinny? She might scare off those who attempt to go vegetarian but are afraid of getting too thin. Personally I think someone more healthy looking would have been a great choice for PETA.

  2. I am not a fan of the Mananquil siblings and Raya is the least attractive. But I think vegetarianism is a good thing. Next time Peta should rather just photograph a pig. It’s cuter on its own!
