Greenpeace Unfriend Coal Facebook Page have shattered the former record for most commented Facebook Page. The previous record stands at 50,000 comments while the recent comments accumulated by Greenpeace Unfriend Page was already 80,000 plus comments.

Greenpeace goal was to “ensure the ability of the Earth to nurture life in all its diversity”. In relation to this goal they had made a Facebook page calling it’s members to comment on the Unfriend Coal Facebook Page. The main purpose of the campaign is to call the attention of Facebook by encouraging everyone to comment and gather at least 50,000 comments within 24 hours.

Representatives from Guinness will have to confirm first about the veracity of the claim to formally declared the Unfriend Coal Facebook Page before it will be considered official.

The campaign of Greenpeace is to convince Facebook to move away from using coal to power it’s data center. Greenpeace will release a data of how technology company from Google to Facebook and other internet giants on how they use clean energy to power their clouds.

Greenpeace campaigned to get Facebook to drop coal and commit to 100 percent renewable energy, cutting its carbon footprint and helping in the struggle to prevent climate change.

Data centers and communication centers of Facebook have been using coal energy to power its cloud technology. Facebook electricity consumption will be tripled in the year 2020 compared to the consumption of France, Germany, Canada and Brazil combined.
