After Japan raises its alert level to 7, Philippine government decided to pull out Filipinos surrounding and residing near Japan’s very controversial plant, the Fukushima Nuclear Plant. It was said that the Philippine government would offer more than 2,000 Filipinos to fly home to get them selves rid from the spreading radiation coming from the quake-damage plant of Japan.
It was declared that the evacuation would be mandatory to those citizens residing within 50 kilometers or equivalent to 31 miles from the location of the nuclear plant.
Albert Del Rosario, our country’s Foreign Secretary, made the said order to prioritize the home flights for those Filipino citizens covered within the stated parameter although he knows that the government could not force all the citizens to leave Japan and return here in the Philippines. Some reason may be that they are committed to Japanese nationals and they don’t want to be relocated.
He also added these home flights may also be offered to those individuals located within 100 kilometer radius of the nuclear plant.
In a press conference conducted for the said issue, Del Rosario said that they will relocate those citizens which belong to the area with the highest risk as quickly as they can.
Del Rosario also announced that a chartered aircraft of Manila will be prepared to make it available during evacuation of more than 2,000 Filipinos in Japan which will probably start on April 17. A screening will also be conducted for the evacuees by health authorities regarding illnesses which they probably took from the nuclear disaster in Japan upon their arrival in Manila.
Government will be expecting more Filipinos to take the offer of returning home compared to those March 11 incident where only few Filipinos returned home after being relocated.
