Another earthquake hit Japan Tuesday morning having magnitude of 6.4 leading to death of at least six people from a local fire department report.
The earthquake was followed by a landslide that killed six people as three houses in Iwaki have been buried, Iwaki City fire department added. There were three individuals who were saved as they were immediately brought to the hospital. Officials under the said fire department continue the rescue operation for other victims who were known to be trapped.
The United States Geological Survey said that the 6.4 magnitude earthquake strike on Tuesday at exactly 8:08 a.m. (7:08 p.m. Monday ET). The quake’s depth was approximately 13 kilometers that centered 77 miles of east-southeast areas of Tokyo.
One person have been killed Monday night in the same city while others were reportedly trapped after a 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit Iwaki City and then triggered by a landslide. It was another earthquake that happened a month after the deadly 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami hit Japan.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the 6.4 magnitude quake happened earlier that centered about 164 kilometers on the northeast of Tokyo and 50 kilometers southwest of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
Police forces of Fukushima Prefecture said that four persons were trapped when the triggered landslide buried three houses.
Rescue operations are still ongoing as Japanese authorities are doing their best to reach out for other victims. As of now, police said that their conditions are still uncertain.
No tsunami warnings have been issued.
After the March 11 devastating earthquake, Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant faced problems with regards to cooling and radiation leaks. Workforce of the said nuclear plant were asked to evacuate after the earlier quake but returned to continue their duties in a little while.
Due to the quake that triggered a landslide a while ago, the news conference scheduled for Japan’s Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, have been postponed. This is because, the Japanese government wanted to settle the immediate emergency first before carrying out the news conference.
After the new quake struck, around 220,000 families as well as Fukushima business establishments has no electricity according to the Tokyo Electric Power Company.
The destructive March 11 earthquake brought many aftershocks followed by a tsunami leading to 13,116 death tolls in Japan. At present, there are still 14,000 individuals to find.
