At dawn of April 15, 2011 a huge fire struck along the sapa area of Camia Street, Maysilo Village, Malabon City which is believed to be due to an explosion of a Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Fire fighters find it a hard time getting to the area for the houses were very close to each other and all are made of light materials which leaves them a very narrow way to get through. Adding up this problem, some residents of the area tried to get hold of the hoses of the firefighters to save their own homes.
Local officials of the area block off a part of M.H. del Pilar, closing the way from Monumento to Valenzuela City.
Some neighbors are now being look into by arson investigators for they claim that the fire started at the home of a Boy Cordero who was cooking at the moment the fire started.
Firefighters report states that the fire started around 2:00 a.m. and reached up fifth alarm and around 500 houses homes were burned down to ashes. A group of fire volunteer reported that the fire was confined around 6:30 a.m., and declared under control at 6:50 a.m.
According to barangay Chairman Paulo Oreta, while no one had been reported, killed, injured nor missing in the fire, the affected residents were evacuated to the nearby Maysilo Elementary School.
More or less 3,000 residents lost their, homes and belongings after the fire. A number of children and families in the neighborhood were given no choice but to sleep on the cold street, with newspapers and small scraps of clothes serving as makeshift blankets just to warm themselves up.
