Penelope Cruz became the first Spanish actress who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.The 36-year-old actress honored with the 2,436th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday, April 1. The film director Rob Marshall, who directed Cruz in the 2009 musical ‘Nine’, presented her the 2,436th star in a ceremony held outside the El Captain Theater on Hollywood Boulevard.

Penelope attended the ceremony with her husband Javier Bardem and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ co-star Johnny Depp. Her star is located at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard, facing the El Captain Theatre and a few yards away from the Kodak Theatre. Unveiling her star she told that it is a very special day for her and she will always remember it. She thanked her parents, husband, siblings and also her new born son for their support.

In her speech, she personally thanked Johnny Depp for improving her English. According to her, when she first arrived at Los Angeles in 1994, she knew only two sentences: ‘How are you?’ and ‘I want work with Johnny Depp’. She was first starred with Depp in 2001 film ‘Blow’ and presently they worked together in the fourth film of Pirates of the Caribbean’ series which is scheduled for release on May 20.

After receiving success in Spain with her films like ‘Todo es mentira’ and ‘Belle Epoque’, in 1998, Cruz was starred in her first English film ‘The Hi-Lo Country’. After that, she played the lead roles in numerous Hollywood films like ‘Blow’ (2001), ‘Vanilla Sky’ (2001) and ‘Sahara’ (2005). She received an Oscar in 2009 for her Supporting Actress role in film ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’.

“Every time I look at that star, I will see the names of all the people that have helped me make many of my dreams a reality,” – said Penelope who gave birth to her first child in late January this year. She is married to the Spanish actor Javier Bardem.
