Three Filipino drug couriers were executed in China Wednesday morning. Confirmation was made by Vice President Jejomar Binay in a live television broadcast.
China’s verdict was final as Ramon Credo, Elizabeth Batain, and Sally Ordinario-Villanueva, all died through lethal injection, Binay pronounced to the public.
Appeals made by the Philippine government and the family members of the three OFW convicts have been rejected as the death sentence was finally carried out Wednesday.
Both Credo and Villanueva were executed in Xiamen whereas Batain was sentenced in Shenzhen. Their families have been with them before they finally took their last hour.
The kin of Credo and Villanueva were permitted by the provincial government of Fujian to visit them on Wednesday morning.
On the other hand, the transmission of Batain’s sentence took place after the family of Batain visited her in Shenzhen.
It was in 2008 when Batain, 38, Credo, 42, and Villanueva, 32, became convicts of heroin smuggling. They have been sentenced to die in February 20 and 21 however, it was moved to March 30 when Vice President Jejomar Binay personally appealed for clemency to the Chinese government last February 18.
Despite the whole nation’s prayer, the fate of the three Filipino drug mules have been bitter as their execution was finally pushed through by the Chinese government.
The Palace expressed great sympathy to the families of the three executed Filipinos.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that the nation sympathize with the families of the three convicts. He added that their deaths have been a dramatic lesson for all.
