Ping Lacson Arrives but is not yet Prepared to Face the Media

Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson arrived in the Philippines via Cathay Pacific flight CX921 at exactly 11:42 am today but reports said that he is not yet ready to face the media until Monday.

After his long silence, the senators came to welcomed him believing that his homecoming will be a big significance to the planned impeachment of Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez that will happen in May.

Chief of staff Ronald Jay Lacson said that his father, Ping Lacson, wanted to spend more of his time to his family as of this moment promising that on Monday, he will finally ensure his appearance to the media. He even added that Senator Ping will face the Senate.

From Hong Kong, Ping was able to arrive at Mactan International Airport in Cebu expecting him and his family to take his flight to Manila.

It was in January 2010 when Lacson left the Philippines just before the court of Manila gave him a warrant of arrest regarding the Dacer-Corbito case. But recently, his warranty has been voided by the Court of Appeals so his request to flee the country has been granted.

The congress will resume on May 9 which will become a good timing for Gutierrez Impeachment trial and Lacson will be joining the Senate once again.

Senator Gregorio Honasan III made a statement on phone expressing that he is pleased about Lacson’s arrival in the country. He believed that his reappearance is vital as justice will soon be handed over. He noted that justice and unity will be playing important roles for the upcoming impeachment.

Requiring 16 out of 24 senate members, Lacson’s presence will make a difference to achieve the two-third number that is necessary to let an impeached official to be sent down.

But since the senate is only composed of 23 senators, there will only be eight votes needed to convict the official who is being impeached

On the other hand, the office of Senator Ping Lacson had already been fixed and reopened so he can readily occupy his seat.
