A lot of people are asking on the Internet whether their laptop can be used as an access point so that other computer and even mobile phone can connect to the internet.
If you are running Microsoft Windows OS, this can be done by configuring an Ad hoc setting under the network connections. But the disadvantage is that it only allows computers to connect using Ad Hoc. Mobile phones and even table PC can’t connect using it.
The best alternative so far is to download software called connectify. Connectify is a free software that will allow you to share your internet connection wirelessly. Unlike Ad Hoc that comes with Windows OS, connectify is able to share it with mobile phones or any devices that have wireless connection.
The software is the best alternative if you don’t have a real access point in your house. Connectify doesn’t need any hardware, meaning you can share it with your friends’ on-the-go.

Connectify has also developed another version for Android. It is now in beta version and requires that you have Android OS Version 2.2 or greater. This means that you can share internet connection if you are connected with your 3G or 4G network.
