Full face transplant has been made in United States to Dallas Wiens, a 25 years old man that was injured in an accident involving an Electronic Power line.
The operations lasted for 15 hours (–foul word(s) removed–)isted by more than 30 doctors.
Surgeons in Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where the operation has conducted marked this as a success.
The Last full face transplant has been made in Spain and it has been nearly a year before it has been made again.
Burns erased all the facial feature of Mr. Wiens after he was injured in November 2008 when he touched a high voltage electrical wire.
The surgery has restored all the facial features of Mr. Wiens including his nose, lips, skin, and muscles as well as the nerves that power them and provide sensation. However, the surgeons wasn’t able to give him new eyes to restore his vision.
One of the surgeon said that Mr. Dallas is really doing great. He‘s meeting all the milestone that surgeons are expecting at the present. In fact, he is already using cellphone to call his family.
Because of his injuries Mr. Wien, who is a father of young girl expressed his sadness before the operation saying that even his own daughter cannot kissed him and said that it’s really frustrating.
“If she kisses me I hear it and can feel some pressure but I can’t really feel her kiss.” Mr. Wien said.
Del Peterson, Wiens grandfather expressed his deepest thanks to the doctor who performed the operation. “You have made this day an amazing journey. And you have blessed Dallas’ life and we thank you”. The said operation cost about $300,000.
Betsy Nable, President of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital said that what their surgeons have accomplished has been tremendous news and marks a new milestone in Brigham and Women’s legacy in transparent surgery.
