
Earthquake of 5.4 magnitudes struck southwest in the remote area of China on Thursday March 10, 2011 near the border of Myanmar that killed 19 people and 174 others injured in tragedy.
Supermarket and hotel had caved-in, some people buried in the debris, said the witness who told the news agency.
The earthquake struck at 12:58 p.m. (0458 GMT). The epicenter of the quake was located about 225 kilometers or (140-miles) west-southwest of Dali in Yunnan province according to the report of Geological Survey.
The USGS said, 34-kilometers depth hit by the quake, though Chinese seismologists was positioned in 10 kilometers depth.
In headquarter of Yingjiang County, the local earthquake officials’ reported 19 dead and 174 injured, the AFP told by phone. But the state television had said earlier that more than 200 were hurt.
The earthquake tremor collapses many houses, said Xinhua news agency, citing local authorities.
In Yingjiang County, the quake triggered power outages and aftershocks had been registered, Xinhua said.
Military personnel and other government authorities were in route to the scene, it said.
No casualties reported yet in the area of Myanmar due to the tremor of earthquake, said the official source.
The previous quake detected that rocked in southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan sometime in May 2008 was the worst m(–foul word(s) removed–)ive earthquake leaving around 87,000 people dead or missing.
