Five airport police in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was charged with negligence resulting to homicide by the Pasay City police last Monday after an incident resulting to a death of a US Navy Officer Last December.

The charges were pursued after the wife of the victim submitted an affidavit according to Senior Superintendent Napoleon Cauton, City Police Chief of Pasay. The wife was based on United States and an internal investigator.

When reporters interviewed Chief Cauton, he said that after the evidence have gathered, they concluded that the five police officer truly committed negligence in their duties to (–foul word(s) removed–)ist persons in custody, in which this case is Navy Lt. Commander Scintar Mejia.

The five police officer, Senior Police Officer 2 Roberto Figueras, SPO1 Mateo Aguilas, Police Officer 2 Jay Guinto and Noel Liberted, and PO1 Jomer Zurbano were said to be beside the victim when he leaped into the stairwell with head first which resulted in his death.

Navy Lt. Commander Scintar Mejia was taken into the custody by the airport police officer in NAIA terminal 1 last December after checkers of the bag found a sachet of a white powdery substance in his belongings, which was believed to be cocaine, although later test indicated that it was not.

An Autopsy was done in the body of Lt. Mejia and it was found out that there are swellings in some part of his body but there was no sign or indication whether it occurred before or after his death. Explain by Chief Cauton.

Investigator said that the angle of foul play is already regarded in this case. They are focusing right now in the negligence of the five police officers in ensuring the victim’s safety while in their custody. “When you don’t need to talk to any person in custody, you make sure that the suspect is placed in a custodial jail.” Chief Cauton said. He also added that the proper thing that the police did is they placed Mejia in a cell when the investigators were not talking to him.
