4.5 Earthquake in Davao

Tarragona, Davao Oriental was hit by an earthquake having a magnitude of 4.5 on Wednesday morning. Taken from the report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology also known as Phivolcs, the quake was said to be moderate as there were no results of serious damages or physical injuries that took place.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Phivolcs named Desiderio Cabanlit told reporters that the earthquake had occurred early morning on Wednesday at exactly 2:01 a.m. It was noted that the shaking was caused by the sudden move of tectonic plates.

Meanwhile, the epicentre of the earthquake had been recorded on the website of the Phivolcs to be about 44 kilometers off the Tarragona coasts specifically.

Cabanlit said that the quake’s intensity was hardly even sensed as there was no anticipated earthquake after effects had been observed. Based on their observations, any other reports regarding possible intensities seemed to be negative.

There was a report which said that the nearby Davao Del Sur was also previously hit by an earthquake. It was on Tuesday morning that a moderate tremor occurred off the Digos City coasts where its epicenter has a distance of 32 kilometers.

Because the Philippines is seated along the Pacific Ring of Fire, movement of tectonic plates along with volcanic activities usually happens in its area of responsibility.

One of the m(–foul word(s) removed–)ive quakes that struck the Mindanao area was recorded in 1976 which took almost thousands of lives. It was strong enough that it had been followed by tsunamis causing big destructions around areas near Moro Gulf.
