Four American sailors have been shot dead by Somali pirates in an attempted rescue efforts to save the lives of the captured sailors who have been held hostage by Somali pirates off the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.
The American victims were Jean and Scott Adam from California together with Phyllis MacKay and Bob Riggle. Jean and Scott Adam even considered the yacht Quest as their home for the past six years having sailed in different parts of the world. The Quest have been captured by Somali pirates last Friday and held hostage the four Americans on board.
For the past three days Navy ships track down the whereabouts of the pirates and keep on shadowing while U.S. negotiating team have done coordinated efforts to save the lives of the four Americans.
Unexpected things were happened when gun shots was heard during the negotiations for the release of the hostages. Those shots coming from the pirates prompted U.S. raiding team to initiate a deadly response. They stormed the captured ships and engaged in a firefight. There was no casualties with the raiding team.
Somali pirates suffered heavy casualties with 2 pirates killed in action and 13 were taken captive. Meanwhile the raiding team have found the bodies of the hostages shot by Somali pirates, rescue workers have tried to revive the victims but their efforts were not enough.
American forces have taken the incidents seriously even sending their finest navy vessels to support the raid. There are two destroyers, the guided missile cruiser U.S.S. Leyte Gulf and the ever reliable aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise.
