Fatalities Continues to Rise in Christchurch New Zealand Earthquake

The recent earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand shocked the Kiwis for its growing number of deaths. The m(–foul word(s) removed–)ive earthquake that hits the City of Christchurch was measured at 6.3 magnitude in the Richter Scale. The epicenter was located at 10 km. south-east of the city at a depth of 5 km.

The earthquake jolted the city at around 12:51 P.M., February 22, 2011. It was the worst of all time that an earthquake unleashed its fury. People are gathering for lunch in crowded places. Office hours have been closed and some people are taking a nap during the time when the earthquake struck.

Building collapsed, numerous familiar places have been severely damaged. The Pynne Gould Guinness Building have been folded down with people inside unaccounted for dead or alive. The famous Cathedral in Christchurch have lost its spire and suffered severed damaged.

Prime Minister John Key was quoted as saying, “at least 65 people have lost their lives”. Rescue operations are still on-going for the recovery of some survivors who are trapped inside the buildings. It was New Zealand’s darkest hour of the day. Death toll are expected to rise.
