In 1886, John Pemberton, a medical chemist happen to invent the popular Coca Cola that for many years, they have been keeping the secret about how its distinct taste is being formulated.

Where, in the page 28 of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, there appeared a newspaper article showing a photograph of someone holding a book showing a recipe which was claimed to be exactly similar to John Pemberton’s formulation of the Coca Cola. The Daily Telegraph reported about the mentioned photo.
Controversial issue had risen because the said photo had appeared to be 32 years ago. No one had expected how significant it was with regards to the 125 years of protecting the brand’s secret.
The said article was published containing the secret recipe of the popular soft drink. Ingredients and quantity were identified and enumerated in the said newspaper page and was known to be used by the company at present.
It was suppose to be a secret but the recipe of the soft drink contained the following ingredients: fluid extract of Coca 3 drams USP; citric acid 3oz, caffeine 1oz, water 2.5 gal; lime juice 2 pints 1 qrt; vanilla 1 oz and caramel 1.5 oz or more to color 7x flavor. It also contained sugar, however, the markings of its quantity was unclear.
Moreover, included as well were alcohol 8oz, orange oil 20 drops; lemon oil 30 drops; nutmeg oil 10 drops; coriander 5 drops; and cinnamon 10 drops.
Oils and ingredients were found to be at its exact quantities and measures and became publicly transparent o the media and continuously spread especially over the internet.
Presently, the ingredients of a Coca Cola in can displays ‘Natural flavorings include caffeine’ along with carbonated water, sugar, phosphoric acid and color (Caramel E1050d).
Mystery eventually becomes unsealed. Thisamericanlife.org has consulted mark Pendergrast, a historian who has writings about the drink’s history. He believes that it could be with connection to the famous slogan of the Coca Cola that says the real thing.
Quoted from Pendergrast statement was that he thinks that it was certainly is a version of the formula.
Whether his intuition is possible, he spreading issue regarding Coca Cola’s ingredients will gradually open the company’s secret possession – the ingredients.
