Mubarak Resignation, Egyptian Freedom Restoration

After 17 days of protests, President Hosni Mubarak finally step down from office on friday February 11, 2011. He finally resigned and handed power to the military for the transition government and the implementation of democratic reforms asked by pro-democracy protesters.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces will be in-charged of the state’s affair and prepare for a peaceful transition to democratic society from authoritarian rule.  At around 6:00 p.m. Cairo time, Vice President Omar Suleiman announced the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak and was televised lived on national television.

The Vice President was quoted as saying “In this grave circumstances that the country is p(–foul word(s) removed–)ing through, President Hosni Mubarak has decided to leave his position as President of the Republic”, he said. “He has mandated the Armed Forces Supreme Council to run the state”.

Right after the announcement celebrations across Egypt was overwhelming, protesters were dancing on the streets with Egyptian flag. Fireworks have been displayed in different parts of Egypt more particularly in Tahrir Square the center of the protest, after the news of Mubarak resignation.

President Hosni Mubarak Resigns

President Hosni Mubarak led Egypt as an authoritarian ruler. For more than 30 years he cling to power. His rule ends friday, February 11, 2011 Cairo time. The day of his resignation coincided with the fall of the Shah of Iran.

Different head of state have praised the gesture of Mubarak as he resigned from office. Right after the announcement he leave the palace in Cairo and moved to an isolated palace in the Red Sea resort of Sham Al-Sheikh. Mubarak resignation is Egyptian’s restoration of freedom.
