President Benigno Aquino III visit New7Wonders of Nature Bet Underground River in Puerto Princesa, Philippines

President Benigno Aquino III visited Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa Wednesday February 9, 2011.

The plane riding President Aquino landed at the Camp Antonio Bautista Airbase 8:12 Wednesday morning.

The President proceed to the newly built Sheridan Hotel in Barangay Cabayugan by helicopter of Philippine Air Force (AFP) to take his relax for a moment before entering the underground water.

City mayor Edward S. Hagedorn and Governor Abraham Kahlil B. Mitra headed the city and provincial government officials in greeting the President during entourage and then going to visit the world famous Subterranean Park in Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan.

According to the City information Office, it was the first time President Aquino to visit the place and witness the beauty beyond compares of the subterranean park in Underground River.

The visit of the President could be a great help in promoting Palawan into tourism particularly the Subterranean River National Park in Puerto Princesa and elevate global voting platform as the Philippines’ official bet in the world search for the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

President Aquino wanted to help increase tourism visits in the country one way or another by promoting the Subterranean River National Park. Climate change presentation is also expected to be shown after he comes back from his tour of the park, said Mayor Hagedorn.

Hagedorn expected a discussion with the President with regards to the campaign “No Mining in Palawan” which is now gathering 10-million votes in the country, he said.

“The National Park” covers 5,000-hectares of well preserved forest. The “underground river” is around 8-kilometers long beneath the cliff and 4-klilometers of which can be accessible by banca.

The “Palawan Underground River” is believe the world’s longest underground river featuring domes and caverns.
