Pakistani team’s bowling coach favored Shahid Khan Afridi (current ODI captain of Pakistan) to be captain of this year’s cricket world cup and expressed to media that he MUST be captain now, after witnessing 3-1 victory over New Zealand commenced today when Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 41 runs. Every team has announced their squad and Pakistan is the only team who haven’t announced Skipper for world cup squad. The competition is still between Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Khan Afridi -one who is ODI captain and other is test captain.
It was directly asked to Waqar younis that what he believe ? whether Afridi should be named captain for world cup or would it be Misbah-Ul-Haq this time ? he replied that it is a tough question but he is clearly favoring Shahid Khan Afridi.
Waqar Younis complained to PCB that they should have named the captain for the time the very moment when they announced the world cup squad to the press, and not doing so has only created issues (and by defeated New Zealand today, Pakistan has proved that they can play their best game even under stress, pressure, and what not).
Also, witnessing “enthusiastic” victory over New Zealand today that has led their team win a series after 2 years, Ex-Wicket keeper of Pakistan also favored Shahid Khan Afridi to be the captain of cricket world cup 2011. He said that Afridi now literally deserves the captaincy title at the biggest event of all.
Though both Shahid Khan Afridi and Misbah-ul-Haq has performed brilliantly in past few games and made it really difficult for the Ijaz Butt to make a final decision about naming the captain for the world cup squad, but majority are backing Shahid Khan Afridi -even Misbah-ul-Haq himself is cherish to play under the captaincy of Shahid Khan Afridi. But they both also said to the media that no matter who ever will be announced captain for the world cup squad they will still play united and with same enthusiasm.
Waqar Younis has praised Pakistani team for their excellent all-round performance during today’s match at Hamilton in which batsmen performed brilliantly by posting a m(–foul word(s) removed–)ive total on a pitch that was completely dead at the end of their innings, and after posting the huge total they bowled with excellence and bowled out entire opposition team for 227 even when a few of the clear-cut decisions where not given in to their favor.
