Uncontrolled Gun in the Philippines Rising

Pistol

Philippine policemen were almost lost their good reputation being peacemaker and maintaining public order. Lately, several policemen were getting involved in different criminalities reported all over the Philippine country.

In the since that police officer could not be able to protect civilians from any of the criminalities, therefore it is best option to every individual to have own guns for private protection and family safety.

This is true particularly different areas where there is constant rebellion. In this reason most people adhere to acquire guns for their own safety and defense.

But according to the expert Jennifer Santiago Oreta, professor of Ateneo de manila University also in Political Science Department she warns that “guns in possession make man confident and tend to take drastic reaction”.

Guns can be easily acquired through uncontrolled smuggled firearms or through unlawful manufactured firearms somewhere in Danao, Cebu.

Circulation of guns all over the country is rampant according to Santiago Oreta in her study. Information from the record of Philippine National Police on the early of the year 2008 shows 1,081,074 firearms with 30.15% licensed to government officials like military, police, deputized government employees, diplomatic corps, reservist, and other selected government officials and 69.85% of firearms circulating in the country are in private position and fifteen percent are in NCR, said the report.

Civilians were not allowed to own high-powered firearms only low-caliber pistol. But in Ampatuan residences the military recovered high powered military type (–foul word(s) removed–)ault rifles.

No wonder the Emerson Lozano, Gerardo Ortega, Venson Evangelista have something in common, they were all victims of the same crime involving guns.

This is the result of uncontrolled firearms circulating all over the country. We have notice that the number of the license firearms is noticeably great and great percentage belongs to the civilian position.

What is more surprising is to have more unlicensed firearms circulating all over the country illegally owned by individual citizens like as of Ampatuan family.

High powered gun

The database record in the Firearms and Explosives Office (FEO) shows approved license of high powered and low powered firearms from 2006-2010 respectively.

From the year 2006, 1,724 hp, 59,679 lp, 2007 1,846 hp, 56,741 lp, 2008, 2,205 hp, 102,897 lp, 2009, 3,901 hp, 120,553 lp, and in 2010 4,569 hp, 77,509 lp.

It is expected that not all legal firearms are in the database of FEO. Firearms issued by the AFP to the officers were not included.

The PNP show the record of crime incidents involving firearms and cl(–foul word(s) removed–)ified as either licensed or loosed firearms.

Since 2008 there are 3,303 numbers of incidents 3,489 firearms used, only 16 are licensed and 3,473 lost firearms used in the incident.

In 2009 4,711 numbers of incidents 4,897 firearms used, only 27 are licensed and 4,876 lost firearms used in the incident.
