Moscow's Terrorist Attacked

Domodedovo airport, Moscow’s largest and busiest airport was under terrorists attacked at around 4:40 P.M. Moscow time, on January 24, 2011.  It happened in the crowded area of international arrivals hall.  According to Russian authorities the explosion was most likely carried out by suicide attacked. At least 35 people have been killed according to  Russia’s NTV television after gathering information from the spokesman of the airport.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was quoted as saying “As you know there was an explosion in Domodedovo.  Preliminary version is that it was a terrorist attacked“. He further adds “People were killed and injured in that blast. We need to do all we can to make sure that victims get immediate medical help,  and I would like to express my condolences to relatives of the victims”.  This was the statement of the President aired on nationwide television.

Domodedovo airport was located 26 miles (42 kilometers) southeast of the center of Moscow. It was built on 1964, serving 241 national and international routes with 77 airlines offered regular flights.

Injured victims were reportedly at 145, and 35 of them were critical. According to Russian State TV, the attacked was act of a suicide bomber who had detonated it in a crowded area. The bomb was packed by shrapnel, screws and ball bearings.

There is no one claimed responsibility to the attacked but Russian authorities had blamed it the the Chechen rebels who had carried out previous attacked. They are even using women to carry out the attacked as what had happened to the Moscow metro bombing of 2004. This women suicide bombers were sometimes called as “black widows”.
